SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WRAP-UP 2008- By John Hallen

The Final Convective Event for 2008. This was a really over hyped event. As this was supposed to be a strong tornadic event that just did not pan out. The SPC upgraded this event to a moderate severe risk 12-27, there were only 7 "weak" tornadoes in the northeast Missouri to southern Illinois vicinity. Below shows the MCS in its full glory, the actual reports by the SPC, and a video of damage by one of the twisters. This mesoscale convective system appears to be over 1500 miles long at the time of this animated image shown below. Actual preliminary tornado reports for the month of December are near 50. The final of preliminary reports for 2008 are close to the 2200 count. SWS is expecting the final count of actual tornado reports to be near 1700 for the year.

The (3) images below detail possibly the last severe thunderstorm event of the year. The third one shows a video of one of the weak tornadoe's aftermath. This is the final mesocyclone/tornadic events of the year.
