New Hampshire Tornadoes - July 24 2008 - By John Hallen / SWS Severe Weather Analyst

A rare occurrence of tornado activity has the Northeast portion of the US in question on July 24th 2008. There was a reported 13 twisters that happened in this area. It appears that there was 1 reported fatality from this tornadic activity. SWS forecaster John Hallen has done research of the data on this event and stated "I have not seen this type of activity in this area in my researched past reports". In the history of SPC tornado reports, it is apparent that this area of activity is not a normal event.

It is pretty unusual to see these mesocyclone/tornadic type storms in this part of the country. There was a pretty strong disturbance north in Canada that did have an effect for the storms that occurred in the northeast on this date. Canada's tornado season is in full swing though, as there are some significant reports of twisters from Manitoba to Ontario. Although Canada's EC does not show tornado reports like the SPC, there are some video and sightings that chasers and spotters have reported.

Below is some images that were documented from the Storm Prediction Centers' website leading up to this unusual severe event.
