THE PASSION FOR WEATHER STARTED WHEN JOHN WAS 7 YEARS OLD.. AN EARLY AGE "WAKE UP" CALL

ITS ALL ABOUT A DISTURBING NEWS PAPER HEADLINE IN 1967

My passion started with weather at an early age. When I was 7 years old, I remember reading the news of a twister outbreak in Mississippi. This family in Mississippi lost everything, and there was a picture of a little girl that was about my age standing there all sad surrounded in destruction. This was disturbing. I hand wrote a letter to her, put it in an envelope, walked down the street to the mailbox on the corner and sent it. I did not realize at the time that a postage stamp was needed. The letter came back "return to sender".

As time passed, I continued studying and learning global weather patterns, along with current trends in oceanic behavior. I was determined to learn more about these destructive storms. My detailed studies have been beneficial in planning severe weather convergence targets presently. Always being attracted to "why" tornadoes form and the properties lining up to cause them, my chase began, and has not stopped. I’ve been affected and really touched by the destruction and fear these storms present when they occur. This is a motivating force for further research projects.

The Success of the Past Season "Raised the Bar" for SWS Teams' Objectives

PLANNED CHASES- from APRIL - JULY, 2011. Last year alone, John intercepted more then 30 tornadoes traveling over 38,000 miles in the Great Plains. After the success of the 2010 season, the new "A TEAM" will embark on the tornado alley region once again with an array of new scientific projects and emergency prep. The 2011 field team is comprised of 4 people.

CERTIFED EMERGENCY RESPONDERS, John is certified to assist others in a time of emergency. in the event of a catastrophic tornadic destruction, John, the team, and. SAR trained canine "Terra" will be present to assist in chaos.

PROBE LAUNCH RESEARCH, Successful probe cannon launches were performed "3 times" in 2010. Continuation of this program will be focused on data retrieval in tornadic circulation. John's forward thinking paid off on this project. Launchers with farther reaching capabilities are on tap for the new season.

VEHICLE TESTING PROGRAM. Amazing chaos describes some of the severe intercepts these cars went through. This testing was performed with for the purpose of the proper "scout" vehicles for the SWS fleet and a public awareness of vehicles that are safe in severe weather. 2011 will be our third year of testing certain vehicles. John's automotive experience led the way for the success of this program.
